Our client, an Energy company, is seeking a Senior Project Engineer in Calgary with the expectation of some travel (~1 week/month) to site and fabricator shops. The ideal candidate has over 15 years of experience in the Energy sector.
Accountability
- Ensure the quality of engineering outcomes for assigned scope(s):
- Meets functional requirements
- Compliant with applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements
- Safe to operate and maintain
- Ensure the engineering deliverables issuance meets the requirements of the project schedule, cost and quality and follow on needs for fabrication and site construction.
Responsibilities
- Ensure appropriate internal stakeholders receive RFPs for awareness.
- Engage the Project Quality Lead for RFP development and technical reviews and inform when scopes are awarded for them to action inspection requirements including the pre-award Shop Quality Audit requirement for the potential proponent(s).
- Primarily responsible for oversight of the design activities to meet all requirements with respect to cost, schedule and quality.
- Review and in many cases approve/accept engineering deliverables, documents, procedures, templates, contract schedules, etc. used to execute the project at the project management level.
- Provide oversight and key input into the development of the Stage Gate Packages prepared with the intent to receive sanctioning from Owner and partner companies.
- Provide oversight/review and key input into the development of the DBM.
- Provide oversight and key input into the development of the PEP.
- Provide oversight and key input into the development of the CEP.
- Review of Regulatory applications and compliance maintenance with relative permit commitments.
- Provide oversight and key input into all cost estimates.
- Provide oversight and key input into the development of all Project schedules.
- Provide oversight and key input into cost savings initiatives as they apply to alternative design solutions or differing execution strategies.
- Maintain Project Logs (RFI Log, NCR Log, Deficiency Log, etc.)
- Lead the technical development for engineering services, equipment, other technical/construction services and material scopes of work for bid packages.
- Lead technical evaluations for equipment, services, and material bid packages.
- Coordinate EWP process with EPs to meet scope and schedule requirements.
- Manage design change to reduce cost over-runs such that only necessary changes are made as they apply to safety, code/spec compliance, maintainability or operability and that Owner's exposure to increased liability is mitigated, minimized or avoided.
- Facilitate adequate engagement from internal and external stakeholders on the project.
- Support the PM in progress monitoring and oversight as it applies to cost and schedule.
- Participate in risk mitigation planning as it applies to design, cost and schedule.
- Implement lessons learned during the execution of the Project as they may apply to improvements for the execution of future projects.
- Provide oversight and input to the Ready for Operations Master Punch List (insert CSU software) ensuring that all deficiencies are clearly defined and potential impacts understood by all key stakeholders.
- Provide appropriate support to the CSU team to ensure seamless resolution of technical problems experienced during commissioning and start-up activities.
- Coordinate with stakeholders across all areas of the project as required.
- Perform/support project close-out.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering practices/processes by monitoring industry best practices and emerging trends, conducting research and analyses, and presenting recommendations to senior leaders.
