Job Title: Battery Software Controls Engineer
Location: Windsor, Ontario (Hybrid – On-site 3 days/week required)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Battery Software Controls Engineer to join our team in Windsor, Ontario. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, development, calibration, and validation of embedded application software for Battery Management System (BMS) applications. This role plays a key part in supporting hybrid and electric vehicle technologies through robust software solutions and model-based design practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, calibrate, and test embedded software for high-voltage battery management systems.

  • Develop and implement model-based battery control strategies and core battery algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow.

  • Perform model-in-the-loop (MIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) validations.

  • Analyze auto-generated code produced via Embedded Coder for quality and compliance.

  • Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing; interpret and analyze test data to troubleshoot implementation issues.

  • Define software test cases with clear traceability to software requirements.

  • Support and maintain software development processes; contribute to the creation of technical design documentation.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical and mechanical engineering teams.

  • Utilize scripting and automation tools (MATLAB/Python) to streamline analysis and testing workflows.

  • Apply general knowledge of hybrid battery and hybrid vehicle systems, ECU configuration, OBDII, and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited (or equivalent) program.

  • 3–5 years of professional experience developing embedded software using model-based design for production-level applications.

  • Proficiency with model-based design tools (MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow), auto-code generation, and configuration/change management.

  • Hands-on experience with Embedded C programming.

  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS INCA.

  • Working knowledge of CAN protocols and Vector tools (CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe).

  • Strong problem-solving skills, organizational ability, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to occasionally work extended hours to meet critical project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic/Software Engineering or Computer Science.

  • Prior experience in developing battery management system software and control algorithms.

  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR architecture and standards.

  • Experience working with Tier 1 automotive suppliers.

  • Exposure to Agile development methodologies.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to the U.S. for team or customer meetings (preferred but not mandatory).

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidate must be able to work on-site in Windsor at least 3 days per week.

  • Preference will be given to candidates currently residing in or willing to relocate to the Windsor area.
