WHAT'S THE JOB?

At Horizon North (part of Dexterra Group), we're on the hunt for that rare kind of tradesperson—someone who knows their way around a Class 8 truck, can spot a mechanical issue before it becomes a problem, and still takes pride in leaving the shop cleaner than they found it. You'll be joining a small, close-knit team that works hard, looks out for one another, and never cuts corners—on safety or on standards. We're hiring a Journeyman Mechanic to help keep our fleet running at its best. This full-time role offers more than just great pay and benefits—it's a chance to work with strong leadership, a respectful culture, and a team that values what you bring to the table. As a key part of the maintenance team, you'll diagnose, maintain, and repair trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. You'll work side by side with the foreman, help mentor apprentices, and occasionally step into the field when needed—all while contributing to a shop culture built on pride, trust, and performance.

• Hands-on diagnostics and repairs on Class 8 trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
• Preventative maintenance that prevents headaches down the line
• Working side-by-side with other pros to get the job done right
• Pitching in on a rotating on-call schedule (yes, it's paid)
• Sharing your knowledge and supporting newer mechanics in the shop
• Keeping safety, professionalism, and teamwork at the heart of everything you do

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

You're not afraid to get your hands dirty—and you do your best work when expectations are high. You like solving problems. You move fast without cutting corners. And you've probably been called a “go-to” more than once.

You'll thrive in this role if you have:

• Journeyperson certification in Heavy Duty or Automotive Mechanics
• 3–5 years of solid shop or fleet maintenance experience
• Confidence with diagnostics, especially on Class 8 equipment
• Experience with service trucks or field work is a bonus
• A commercial inspection licence (or interest in getting one)
• A strong sense of independence and team spirit
• A professional, safety-first mindset

Working Conditions

• Monday to Friday daytime hours, with rotating on-call duties (evenings/weekends paid)
• Fieldwork may be required occasionally during peak periods
• Work takes place in both indoor shop environments and outdoor yards, in all seasons
• PPE must be worn at all times, and safety protocols are strictly enforced
