ABOUT CHILD DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTEChild Development Institute (CDI) is a leading children's mental health agency in the City of Toronto offering a range of services to approximately 3,000 children ages 0‐12, youth ages 13-18 and their families each year. Our mission is to promote and support the healthy development of children and to strengthen the families and communities in which they live. We provide four streams of service to families in need: early intervention, family violence, healthy child development and specialized mental health services for children and youth with learning disabilities.POSITION SUMMARYCDI is seeking a dynamic candidate to work under the direction of the Coordinator of SNAP Boys Youth Leadership Services. The SNAP Boys Leadership in Training (LIT) Program Facilitator will be responsible for providing a broad range of activities, support and leadership to a diverse group of youth involved in the SNAP Boys LIT Program (including a Supportive Employment Continuum).
This is a short-term position (June 16, 2025 to August 23, 2025) that supports the Boys LIT summer program and the opportunities afforded to youth by Camp Wimodausis.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Accepting and working within the Institute's stated vision, mission, values and goals, the LIT Program Facilitator reports directly to the SNAP Boys Youth Leadership Services Coordinator.
  2. Assists in developing and implementing the Leader in Training (LIT) program for SNAP Boys Youth Leadership Services participants 12-18 years of age supporting youth to develop confidence, competencies and skills in Community Service, Healthy Choices, Teamwork, Leadership and Learning for Life.
  3. Regularly communicates with families and contacts youth's parents/caregivers on a weekly basis to provide progress updates.
  4. Facilitates assignment, coaches and supports LITs in leadership roles at Camp Wimodausis and works to enhance healthy personal development and employment/volunteer skills of youth in those positions.
  5. Supports LITs in leading sports programming for Camp Wimodausis campers.
  6. Accompanies youth on field trips and outings in the community.
  7. Works collaboratively with staff, volunteers, parents, and participants to ensure LITs have a safe and fun educational experience.
  8. Supervises and facilitates activities in a manner that ensures safety and inclusion of all participants.
  9. Problem solves issues pertaining to positive LIT growth and development (i.e. personal interactions and behaviour, interpersonal conflicts, application of good judgement and conflict resolution skills, etc.)
  10. Completes documentation in a timely manner (i.e. program plans, program reports and evaluations, incident and serious occurrence reports, etc.).
  11. Maintains positive professional relationships with youth, campers, parents, staff, community members and other Child Development Institute patrons and visitors.
  12. Adheres to the Child Development Institute's Policies and Procedures and maintains a safe and healthy working environment.
  13. Performs other assigned duties in the interests of the organization.
What we hope you will bring…
  • A University or College Diploma, preferably in Child and Youth Work, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in child and youth work.
Skills, Attributes and Abilities
  • Training in Stop Now and Plan (SNAP) is an asset
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, probe, analyze and problem solve issues.
  • Be a dedicated and flexible team player able to interact with team members and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Workplace Environment
  • Governed by concurrent and dynamic deadlines, despite conflicting priorities and frequent interruptions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be elevated at times.
  • Fast paced and work environment that requires flexibility and adaptation.
  • Frequent handling of queries and calls from youth, colleagues, and managers.

COMPENSATION: $ 26.52 per hour
WORK SCHEDULE: 30 hrs per week
CONRACT PERIOD: June 16, 2025 to August 23, 2025
