This is what you'll be doing:

  • In addition to MLT tasks, the incumbent will assist with workflow in the Microbiology
  • Provides strong Technical support, consultation, and interpretation in all aspects of departmental testing. Ensure changes to processes and/or methods are communicated to staff.
  • Coordinates troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of equipment.
  • Investigation, development, recommendation, installation and training associated with new methods and new technology.
  • Assists in the follow-up of non-conformities as required
  • Development, updating and reviewing of the technical manuals
  • Responsible for assisting with inventory control and management of supplies as it pertains to Microbiology and other areas of the laboratory if required.
  • Incumbent is required to be an active member of the scheduling team and assist with payroll as required
  • Monitors procedures and consults with the MDH and GH site to ensure consistency across all sites
  • Strong knowledge of Microbiology accreditation requirements
  • Participates actively in continuing education and applies knowledge where applicable
  • Maintains adequate knowledge of Microbiology equipment and reporting
  • Data retrieval and analysis pertaining to workload
  • Participates in and submits reports to established quality assurance programs
  • Participation in regional Microbiology working groups
  • Reports all issues and process gaps to Laboratory Manager and offers constructive solutions
  • Maintains current knowledge of professional standards, legislation, accreditation requirements and established health and safety guidelines.

Other duties as required by the laboratory management team

Qualifications
  • Member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
  • Recent experience of 5 years in a Microbiology environment,
  • Experience with routine Microbiology automated instrumentation and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management Systems, Quality Assurance procedures and Quality Control.
  • Solution oriented
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as a collaborative member of a team.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be physically able to do the job
  • Excellent employment and attendance record

Additional Information

Status: Temporary full-time (Approx. 6 month)

Hours: Monday to Sunday - Various rotating 8 hour shifts (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $42.250 to $53.280 per hour
