About Sunset Bistro:

Located in the heart of Downtown Burlington, Sunset Bistro is known for its vibrant atmosphere, waterfront views, and diverse, high-quality menu. From brunch to dinner, we serve a loyal clientele who value freshness, flavour, and consistency. We are currently seeking a highly experienced Sous Chef to join our team and help us continue raising the bar.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a Sous Chef with over 5 years of professional kitchen experience to support the Executive Chef in leading our culinary operations. The ideal candidate must be confident running all kitchen services — brunch, lunch, and dinner — and must thrive in high-pressure environments, especially during rush hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Executive Chef in overseeing all kitchen operations and staff
  • Execute and manage service across all dayparts: brunch, lunch, and dinner
  • Maintain composure and leadership during busy rush periods
  • Ensure consistent food quality, taste, and presentation
  • Mentor, train, and supervise kitchen team members
  • Monitor inventory, assist with ordering, and ensure proper food storage
  • Uphold all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards
  • Collaborate on menu creation and seasonal features
  • Step in as lead chef in the absence of the Executive Chef

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a professional kitchen, with at least 2 years in a leadership or sous chef role
  • Proven ability to manage high-volume services during peak hours
  • Experience executing full-day kitchen operations, from brunch to dinner
  • Strong leadership, multitasking, and communication skills
  • Culinary diploma or Red Seal certification is an asset
  • Flexible availability including weekends and holidays
  • Valid Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain)
