Position Summary
Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will be performing treatment of oily waters using chemical recipes along with assorted types of pumps, valves and process equipment for the movement of the oily waters through the treatment process. The operator is also responsible for assisting with maintenance (scheduling, performing, recording and reporting) of process equipment and maintaining appropriate inventory levels of required treatment chemicals and miscellaneous water treatment supplies.
Responsibilities
Transfer of oily water from the tank farm to the process tanks as directed by the supervisor.
Conduct sampling of water at various stages of the treatment process.
Operate pumps for the addition of both hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals to treatment tanks as directed.
Perform basic wet chemistry tests on treatment process samples.
Prepare necessary reagents for the treatment process.
Maintain inventory levels of required treatment chemicals and supplies.
Assist in scheduling, performing, recording, and reporting on process equipment maintenance (both preventative and reactive).
Operate and clean the filter press.
Operate and clean the oil/water separator.
Perform housekeeping and maintenance tasks within the water treatment building as needed.
Ensure proper maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Specifications
Chemical Engineering Technology or Chemical Technician Diploma, or equivalent experience (5+ years).
WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training.
Knowledge of Ontario Regulation 347 is an asset.
Lift Truck operator training, or willingness to be trained.
Experience with valves, piping systems, and pumps is an asset.
Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment maintenance.

Regular exposure to hazardous materials and chemicals.
Use of personal protective safety equipment (latex gloves, rubber boots, respiration mask, earplugs, face shield, goggles, safety glasses), as required.
Heights, climbing, and working with ladders.

Regular exposure to noisy environments (Yard, Shop, trucks, pumps).
Regular exposure to fumes, vehicle exhaust, and obnoxious odours.

Work Environment
The majority of the work takes place indoors within the water treatment building, with occasional tasks in the lab, pumphouse, and yard as needed.
Work is typically performed during a standard Monday-to-Friday workweek, following a shift schedule that may range from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm (40 hours per week).
Overtime and weekend hours may be required during peak business periods.
Physical Demands
Physically able to lift, pull, and carry up to 50lbs regularly, and up to 100lbs when required.
Tasks include rolling drums, moving hoses, and pushing a pump cart.
Operating equipment such as forklifts.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Standing for extended periods, with minimal time spent sitting.
Operating both manual and power hand tools.
Maintaining mental focus to ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures at all times.
