The Director of Assets – Rolling Stock is responsible for overseeing the lifecycle management, procurement, and optimization of a diverse fleet of rolling stock and warehousing equipment. Reporting to the VP of Purchasing, this leader collaborates across departments to define equipment specifications, manage capital improvement projects, and ensure operational efficiency. The role involves vendor relationship management, market analysis, and the execution of asset disposal strategies in compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, the Director plays a key role in business development by leveraging industry networks and identifying new opportunities for growth.
Scope of Role
- Collaborate with the VP to establish specifications for all rolling stock equipment and ensure alignment with organizational goals
- Define and manage procurement timelines for rolling stock, coordinating with stakeholders to meet project deadlines
- Lead capital asset improvement projects, focusing on performance enhancements and equipment longevity
- Analyze asset life cycles, considering factors such as depreciation, maintenance costs, and technological advancements
- Manage relationships with both used and new equipment vendors nationwide for trucks, trailers, forklifts, and warehouse machinery
- Oversee the disposal and sale of equipment, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal protocols
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 7-10 years' experience in a similar role, preferably with a background in cost analysis and/or industrial engineering
- Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, adept at conveying complex information clearly
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Proficiency in negotiation techniques and a solid understanding of customer relations principles
- Willingness to travel as needed to meet vendors, attend industry events, and support business initiatives
