Position Description

Were looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst to join our IT team! In this role, youll support the development and delivery of reliable, high-quality software tools that power programs like ApprenticeSearch.com. Youll work closely with developers to execute manual tests, document bugs, and contribute to test planning activities. Summary

The Junior QA Analyst will support the enhancement of HIECs testing infrastructure and workflows as part of a small, collaborative IT team. This role will assist with test planning, manual testing, and bug tracking while gaining exposure to a development environment that includes Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Git. Youll help ensure software features function as intended and identify system issues before releases, playing an essential role in delivering quality digital products to internal users and the community. This role is ideal for a technically curious, early-career professional who thrives in a dynamic, hands-on setting.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Candidates must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the funded position.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Be available to work 35 hours/week over an 8-week period (May to August)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the QA team in developing and executing manual test cases for new features and system updates
  • Review product requirements and user stories to understand system functionality
  • Identify, log, and track bugs or issues using tracking tools such as Jira
  • Assist with smoke, regression, functional, and integration testing
  • Re-test resolved issues to confirm fixes and contribute to release readiness
  • Collaborate with developers to clarify issues and ensure accurate resolution
  • Maintain documentation of test cases, results, and known issues
  • Help prepare and manage test environments and data sets
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions about improving product quality
  • Learn and use QA tools and processes as part of your professional growth

Qualifications to succeed:

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 02 years of experience in a QA or software testing role (internships, co-op placements, or project-based experience welcome)
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and basic QA methodologies
  • Experience with QA tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, or similar platforms) is an asset
  • Understanding of web and mobile application functionality
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • High attention to detail and a systematic, analytical approach to troubleshooting
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team environment

Working Conditions:

  • Typical working hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with some requirements to work additional hours, occasionally during evenings and weekends. It may require some flexibility to support high-impact events and programs that run from time to time.
