At CCS, we hire passionate and talented people who share our mission of providing solution-oriented, high-quality services. Our culture is inclusive, collaborative, and quality-driven.

Role Description

We are seeking a Statistical Scientist or Associate Statistical Scientist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be hired for one of these roles based on qualifications and experience.

In this position, you will support the advancement of our statistical capabilities for comparative effectiveness research and contribute to the development of internal and external open-source software. You will work closely with our team on innovative statistical methods and practical applications for healthcare research.

This role is ideal for someone who has recently graduated from their MSc (Associate Statistical Scientist) or those with some professional experience (Statistical Scientist) who are considering pursuing a PhD in the future. You will gain valuable experience in applied statistical research, including opportunities to publish and contribute to high-impact projects.

This position can be fully remote or hybrid (preferred) for candidates located in Vancouver, BC.

Who You Are

You are a motivated statistician with a strong foundation in statistics and math. You have experience or are eager to learn and expand your skills in statistics, causal inference, and R package development. You are committed to advancing CCS's presence in applied statistics and modelling.

You enjoy working closely with a small, dynamic team and are comfortable communicating advanced statistical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Primary Duties

  • Conduct Research and Development (R&D) on innovative statistical methods.
  • Develop and maintain R packages and shiny apps.
  • Collaborate on client proposals and project execution.
  • Perform statistical analyses and document findings.
  • Stay updated on emerging statistical and data science methodologies.
  • Communicate statistical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Assist in designing graphical methods to support statistical approaches.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks, with the level of independence depending on the role.
  • Contribute to manuscript writing and publications when applicable.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Statistics or Biostatistics.
  • Solid theoretical foundations and background in statistics with ideally a Bachelors in Mathematics
  • Proficiency in R programming and statistical analysis.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in statistics (both Bayesian and frequentist).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new statistical methods.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to acquire software engineering skills for package and shiny development; and to develop and continuously improve efficient and easy-to-use coding practices
  • Excellent technical writing skills and ability to communicate complex ideas.
  • Ability to communicate complex statistical concepts to non-statisticians
  • Comfortable operating with and being effective despite ambiguity
  • Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
  • Passion for statistics (rather than generic data science) and R&D
