Job Description

Extropic Energy Inc. is advancing energy modernization and resilient power infrastructure through a 3D digital twin project approach. We work on projects like solar, EV charging infrastructure, and energy roadmaps that make our world better and more sustainable. We seek a passionate and highly motivated Microgrid Engineer to join our team.

The Microgrid Engineer will support the administrative functions of the business, including office administration, project controls and scheduling, health & safety, and marketing & business development support.

Job Duties

  • This is a multi-faceted position:
  • Design of renewable energy systems and microgrids that incorporate distributed energy resources such as solar, battery energy storage, combined heat & power.
  • Power system studies
  • Design, implement, and operate a real-time digital simulator (RTDS) lab
  • Programming of protection & control systems for microgrids
  • SCADA design, testing, and implementation
  • Develop and implement human machine interface (HMI)
  • Testing & commissioning activities
  • Multi-discipline field reviews at construction sites
  • Engaging directly with contractors and clients
  • Use of 3D Laser Scanner for reality capture and physical digital twin integration
  • Other project and administrative duties as assigned.

Candidate Experience & Skill Requirements

  • Masters Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus in power systems;
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in power systems or directly related field;
  • Experience with protection & control equipment such as Schweitzer (SEL) Real-Time Automation Controller (RTAC) and recloser controllers.
  • Experience with power system software such as EMTP-RV, ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink, PSS/E, RSCAD, or CYME.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to meet and adapt to changes in organizational priorities;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook);
  • Working knowledge of office procedures and standard office equipment;
  • Knowledge of business English, including grammar, spelling and syntax;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Class 5 driver's license.

Location

This position is based in Kelowna, BC, at 1350 St Paul St, or alternatively in Saskatoon, SK, at 2555 Grasswood Road East. Some travel is required.

Working Hours

40 hours per week. Monday to Friday.

Compensation

The compensation package includes a competitive salary, medical & dental benefits and a cell phone allowance.
