Job Description

Position Summary:

Manages day to day Human Resource services for Gordon Food Service (GFS) division, Canada National or United Triman. In partnership with local and HR leadership, coordinates best practices in employee relations, total rewards, training and development, recruitment, succession planning and leadership development along with building other effective tools needed by GFS management.

Location:

The successful candidate will be required to be in the office 4 days a week and should be able to travel between the GFS Milton DC and the United Trimen North York DC, as required.

Essential Functions:

  • Working with the HR and division leadership, develops and maintains an HR/hiring plan to ensure the division has the employees needed when required
  • Partners with the Talent Acquisition team during the hiring process and once candidates are identified, manages all remaining aspects of the onsite interview and final selection process.
  • Manage all aspects of the onboarding and orientation process for new hires and managers.
  • Partner with the Learning & Organizational Development specialist to provide manager interview skills training as required.
  • Educates and consults leadership on the Performance Management process, understands and leverages the Workday Talent Management Suite, coaches employees and managers on employee relations performance, practice or policy issues, promotes the open door policy.
  • Responds to, investigates and determines course of action for complaints from GFS employees or others in regards to Gordon Food Service.
  • Educates and assists leaders on the GFS Leadership Development initiatives.
  • Facilitates training and monitors required leadership training and development for completion. Monitors effectiveness of training by periodically auditing employee knowledge. Reviews and provides feedback to Share Services HR about training materials utilized.
  • Understands GFS compensation practices and policies and ensures leaders understand how to properly implement. Collaborates with and assists with the process for annual compensation changes and bonus payouts.
  • Plans and supports benefits enrollment processes as well as educating employees and leaders on GFS retirement plans, benefits and wellness initiatives
  • Implements location specific strategies to support the success of the overall Employee Engagement strategies
  • Supports the administration of Workers Compensation (where applicable), short and long term disability and other various benefits using applicable software to manage processes.
  • Plans and implements employee events that perpetuate Gordon Food Service Culture
  • Interviews, hires, trains, and retains HR staff. Conducts performance monitoring of staff, initiates follow through with disciplinary action and termination in consultation with Regional HR Director when appropriate for the department.
  • Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and serves as a role model and resource to them
  • Develops and manages capital and operational budget for the department.
  • Assists the HR Director with providing insights and interpretation of HR metrics such as turnover, new hires, diversity and other various items.
  • May perform administrative functions related to general human resources responsibilities to include processing employment insurance claims, managing the training database, entering new hires and others as required, events coordination, and others.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. French Canadian required in Quebec.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Management of Personnel Resources — Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Bringing others together and trying to reconcile differences.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Knowledge of applicable employment laws and government regulations
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR), Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification, CHRP or CHRL preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive Human Resources experience with prior leadership or management experience required, or an equivalent combination of education, training and professional experience.
