Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical & Controls Engineer with at least 10 years of industry experience to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in Allen Bradley PLC programming (RS Logix), HMI design (FactoryTalk), and a track record of generating electrical documentation (panel drawings, single line drawings, cable schedules, device lists) using AutoCAD Electrical or E-Plan. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and commissioning control systems primarily in the process industry, including boiler applications. This role also involves supervising a small team of engineers and technicians, and requires the ability to work independently within a small, dynamic organization.
French language skills are a major asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Control System Design & Programming
- Develop, test, and maintain control logic using Allen Bradley PLC platforms (RS Logix).
- Configure and troubleshoot control loops for valves, pumps, fans, boilers, and heating/cooling systems.
- Design Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) in Allen Bradley FactoryTalk; Maple Systems experience is an asset.
- Electrical Design & Documentation
- Create and update detailed electrical drawings (panel layouts, single line diagrams), cable schedules, and device lists using AutoCAD Electrical or E-Plan.
- Develop and maintain project documentation (BOMs, datasheets, user manuals) in alignment with industry standards.
- Team Leadership & Project Coordination
- Supervise and mentor a small team of engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and reviewing work for accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including procurement, production, and project management, to ensure successful project delivery.
- Onsite Commissioning & Support
- Conduct device checks, loop checks, system testing, and troubleshooting during onsite commissioning at customer facilities.
- Travel up to 20% of the time to domestic and international locations, with some trips lasting 2–4 weeks.
- Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Stay current with relevant standards, best practices, and emerging technologies in the field of electrical and controls engineering.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Time Management & Independent Work
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables in a small company environment with minimal overhead.
- Adapt to shifting priorities and maintain productivity in both office-based and hybrid work settings.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in electrical and controls engineering.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Allen Bradley PLC programming (RS Logix).
- Experience in HMI design using Allen Bradley FactoryTalk (Maple Systems an asset).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or E-Plan for electrical design and documentation.
- Solid understanding of process control loops, including valves, pumps, fans, boilers, heating, and cooling loops.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in process industries such as petrochemical and boiler systems.
- Leadership: Ability to supervise and guide a small team of engineers/technicians.
- Commissioning: Proven experience with onsite commissioning (device checks, loop checks).
- Language Skills: French speaking is a significant asset.
- Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally.
