Position: Accounting Lead – Professional Services Industry
Location: Hybrid – Toronto, ON M4T 2A7
Compensation: $75,000–$100,000 annually

About the Opportunity
Our client, a growing professional services organization based in Toronto, is looking for an experienced Accounting Lead to oversee day-to-day financial operations and support strategic decision-making. This role will manage all aspects of the financial function, including reporting, reconciliation, compliance, and staff mentorship, within a fast-paced and highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting processes, including receivables, payables, and payment allocation

  • Supervise and manage invoice billing, collections tracking, and disbursement reconciliation

  • Monitor outstanding balances and initiate appropriate follow-ups for unbilled amounts and dormant trust holdings

  • Reconcile corporate bank and trust accounts, investigate anomalies, and correct discrepancies

  • Handle credit card posting and monthly reconciliation

  • Prepare journal entries for month-end close, including general ledger allocations, payroll adjustments, and intercompany postings

  • Perform government remittance reconciliation (HST/GST), adjustments, and filings

  • Generate and analyze internal financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards

  • Assemble year-end reporting packages and liaise with external financial advisors and auditors

  • Supervise payroll preparation and ensure timely, compliant disbursement of wages

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to inform strategic planning

  • Maintain accurate records using QuickBooks and Soluno (or equivalent accounting platforms)

  • Collaborate with operational leadership to provide financial insight for business planning

  • Lead and support a team of accounting staff, including junior bookkeepers

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is a strong asset

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in full-cycle accounting, ideally in a regulated or professional services setting

  • Previous experience in a legal or trust-based accounting environment is preferred

  • In-depth understanding of Canadian tax regulations and financial reporting standards

  • High proficiency in QuickBooks and other industry-standard accounting tools

  • Demonstrated experience in payroll management, account reconciliation, and budgeting

  • Strong analytical mindset with a detail-oriented and proactive approach to problem-solving

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills

  • Clear and professional communication skills, both verbal and written
