The Estimator/Project Coordinator position is based in the Greater Toronto Area (Newmarket and Vaughan). The successful candidate will prepare civil, electrical, and structural estimates, typically in the utility industry (transformer stations, transmission lines, and renewable energy projects), and will work on tenders from receipt of RFP to project handover. They may also provide support to project operations.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform quantity take-offs for civil, electrical, and structural scope items on RFP tenders
- Prepare project estimates primarily for renewable energy projects (e.g., wind, solar, battery energy storage) and utility projects, including civil/grading work, excavation, backfill, foundations, storm drainage, and duct banks
- Estimate costs of materials, labour, and equipment required for projects based on drawings and specifications
- Establish and maintain the tendering process; set up cost monitoring, reporting systems, and procedures
- Prepare and follow up on RFQ packages to multiple vendors/subcontractors
- Follow up and prepare appropriate responses to clarification questions submitted by subcontractors during the tendering process
- Review, evaluate, and prepare comparisons of quotes received from prospective subcontractors; recommend the best and most responsive bids to include in the final submission
- Coordinate pricing packages with suppliers, subcontractors, and owners regarding tenders
- Participate in site visits, tender reviews, tender hand-offs, and project closing meetings, as required
- Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
- Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors; prepare value engineering proposals for estimates
- Update and maintain the estimate database; manage multiple estimates simultaneously
- Develop tender construction schedules
- Develop methodologies and execution plans for scopes of work
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- University Degree or College Diploma in Engineering, Construction, or a combination of education and industry experience
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years of estimating experience in civil, structural, and electrical estimation
- Experience with renewable and substation utility projects including civil works, excavation, foundations, duct banks, granular roads, etc., considered an asset

- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Scheduling)
- Strong overall computer skills

- Self starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
