POSITION: EMPLOYMENT INTAKE CLERK
HOUR OF WORK: FULL-TIME, PERMANENT (35 HRS/WEEK)
REPORTS TO: EMPLOYMENT & TRAINING MANAGER
WAGE: $22.00 - $27.00/hour
PROGRAM
The Employment & Training Department is responsible for providing training and education as well as providing information on available training and educational opportunities for members who are unemployed, looking for work, in between jobs or seeking a new career change.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Employment Intake Clerk is the first point of contact for new clients and provides assistance and information to job seekers on all aspects of employment search and career planning. They also provide administrative support to the Department in areas of information gathering, client database, record keeping, to comply with all funding reporting requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interview clients to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals
- Identify barriers to employment and assist clients with such matters as job readiness skills, job search strategies, writing resumes and preparing for job interviews
- Assess need for assistance such as financial aid or further training and refer clients to the appropriate services
- Assist the Employment and Training Manager with reports and applications for funding resources
- Provide established workers with information and strategies for maintaining a job
- Assist with organizing and facilitating workshops, networking events, panel discussions and other group learning opportunities
- Collect labour market information for clients regarding job openings, entry and skill requirements and other occupational information
- May administer and interpret tests designed to determine the interests, aptitudes and abilities of clients
- Update job postings on the Tsawout Website and training/employment board with local tangible opportunities for a wide range of skills and abilities. This should range from entry level to career-based opportunities.
- Assist with planning and organization of a new employment and training program for Tsawout First Nation and its citizens
- Assist with any training session brought to the Community for Clients
- Assist in seeking training sessions to bring to Community
- Assist in seeking possible funding sources for Employment and Training sessions or events
- Create and maintain a client list for Job seekers.
- Create and maintain an employer list of local businesses seeking to hire clients
- Arrive to work on time and prepared for duties
- Other duties as required by the Employment and Training Manager, or otherwise designated Managers
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma)
- Related post-secondary diploma or certificate/training if candidate has work experience in the field
- Valid BC drivers license, reliable vehicle and clean drivers abstract required
- A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment

- Must have knowledge about opportunities, different areas of work and keep up to date in latest trends in the industry
