DescriptionThe general accountant provides support and assists with data collection, and cash application, accounts payable, analysis related to various projects as required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for month end close including: reconcile banks, credit card, AR and AP sub-ledger reconciliation, month end documentation/adjusting entries, reporting and analysis;
  • Maintain Finance and Accounting Policies, as well as Standard Operating procedures;
  • Working on variance analysis for AR and AP control accounts as well as deferred revenue accounts to identify the root cause and making appropriate adjusting journal entries;
  • Supporting AR and AP by reviewing complex transaction entries to ensure they are being processed in accordance with accounting policies;
  • Monthly analysis of, AP accruals, and GTIN revenue accrual and making appropriate journal entries to record the same in financial statements;
  • Participating in month-end financials review by providing supporting information for journal entries made, and making any adjusting entries required based on the review;
  • Preparing monthly HST/GST remittances and quarterly QST remittance;
  • Preparing reports along with supporting documents as per auditor's requests during interim and year-end audits as well as gathering documents as per the audit schedule to support the financial statements;
  • Gather and validate requirements from departments, various systems, and subject matter experts, and build financial models for combining data from various data sources (i.e. cost recovery models), and maintaining data accuracy;
  • Responsible for collection, validation, and cleansing of master data from various sources and systems as required for specific projects;
  • Prepare ad hoc reports as required;
  • Build trust and credibility with internal stakeholders;
  • Provide backup to other functions when necessary;
  • Perform various other duties as delegated or assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • University degree in a relevant field (i.e. Business, Commerce), specializing in accounting and currently enrolled in a recognized accounting program (i.e. CGA, CMA);
  • 5-6 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, costing, reconciliation and reporting as well as AR/AP/GL including month-end, with industry experience an asset;
  • Proven high level of prof iciency in MS Of f ice Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, macros), Word, PowerPoint and Access;
  • Working experience with Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERPs), and experience with Great Plains an asset;
  • Project management and methodology experience an asset;
  • Team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment with a proven ability to meet tight and changing deadlines and high volumes;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, possessing a high level of problem solving and analytical abilities;
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to interact with all levels of staff professionally and efficiently;
  • Completes assignments on target with a high level of quality overcoming obstacles to achieve desired goals;
  • Drives for results and sees tasks and projects through to completion, despite difficulties or disruptions that may arise;
  • Looks beyond own role to suggest improvements to existing products, services, systems etc.;
  • Entrepreneurial spirit suited for fast-paced, results-based environment, requiring flexibility to ever-changing needs.
