Job DescriptionPerform and record manufacturing activities consistent with those required to meet company objectives. Must be able to handle multiple concurrent tasks with fluctuating priorities. Sets up and operates engine lathes, milling machines, drill presses, air hydraulic presses, grinders, furnace, shaper, saws and other machines to construct or repair metal parts, carbon parts, tools and machines. Sets up and operates C.N.C. machines, mills and drills on a variety of work involving hole drilling, tapping, threading, turning, reaming, boring, facing and other machining operations performed on C.N.C. equipment. Develops new programs and modifications of existing programs.
SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Participates in the development of new programs and modifications of existing programs.
- Reviews and improves existing process sequencing and tooling recommendations.
- Trains operators on the operation of all/any machine as well as editing techniques.
- Utilizes knowledge of working properties for a wide variety of materials such as aluminum, brass, cast iron, alloy steels, plastics, etc.
- Uses all necessary machinists' hand tools including scrapers, chisels, files, and measuring instruments.
- Grinds own tools of high speed steel, satellite or carbide.
- Pre-sets tools and addresses tool off-sets prior to finishing cuts.
- Required to make edits on programs and modify tooling in the event of new programs, tools or parts.
- Uses all convention machines and hand tools. Grinds tools if necessary.
- Uses measuring instruments such as micrometers, Vernier, calliper, etc. to verify conformance to specifications.
- Utilizes knowledge of shop mathematics, charts and tables. Uses standard bolts, screws, threads and tapers, etc. to efficiently plan work.
- Trains and assists other C.N.C set up Operators.
- Works from factory work orders, prints, sketches, and written or verbal instructions.
- Notifies supervisor of shop and tooling requirements.
- Operates C.N.C machines as assigned and may be required to operate more than one machine simultaneously.
- Works to required tolerances and is responsible for quality of work produced.
- Follows preventative maintenance procedures as outlined by machine manufacture or supervisors.
- May be required to assist in machine repair.
- Keeps machine and work area clean, lubricated and orderly.
- Makes proper job and time reports for timekeeping and tracking.
- Performs other duties as assigned utilizing normal skill and ability of the current position.
- Remains aware and follows all health and safety practices. Works in a safe fashion and reports any concerns to supervisor.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Training:
- High school education plus 2 years technical training
- Completion of Machinist apprentice
Experience:
- Requires over 5 years of experience in related or subordinate work, plus 3-15 months on the job training
Knowledge/Skills:
- Require ability to understand and solve technical problems of average nature.
- Requires the understanding and ability to program graphical machine interfaces.
