BGCO is hiring a Parent/Teen Family Worker. This Program is for families who require support in order to manage parenting responsibilities. The Program is solution focused using a mediation model which supports development of agreed upon solutions for problems within the family. The Parent/Teen family worker provides on average 3-7 sessions with the family and young persons. Parents can then be referred to a parenting support group for any ongoing support needs. The Parent/Teen Family worker also assists in connecting parents and teens to other services in the community as needed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gathers information relevant to the youths problems, needs, and risks by interviewing, observing behaviour, meeting with caregivers and service providers, and using an assessment tool. Review the information gathered to identify strengths, problems, needs, and risks.
  • Develops and implement short-term, issue-specific intervention plans within the program scope.
  • Plans, prepares, and conducts group or individual sessions using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, and problem-solving to resolve the identified problems, needs, and risks.
  • Assesses effectiveness of strategies used and checks in on youths progress toward goals shifting approach where necessary to best meet the needs of youth.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and provides reports to the supervisor as required
  • Liaise with other professionals and youths natural supports to promote the interests of youth and their families.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • A diploma, certificate and/or relevant experience working with children in recreation, education, or social services.
  • First Aid Certificate.
  • Class 5 driver's license and a driver's abstract

Hours: 11 hours per week, flexible, some evenings and weekends.

Rate of Pay: $24.85/hour
