The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits.
Who You Are
Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Finance Clerk. Reporting to the MTS Controller, the Finance Clerk is a key member of the finance team and is responsible for supporting various financial operations, including accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) processes, job costing, bank reconciliations, and invoicing. The Finance Clerk will work with both Sage 300 and Xyntax systems to upload ISC funding, process financial data, and generate reports. Additionally, they will assist with employee expense reporting, review employee timesheets, and support month-end and year-end financial closings. The Finance Clerk plays an essential role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the financial health of the organization. They will interact with internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring smooth financial operations and timely reporting. The Finance Clerk is also expected to provide ad hoc financial reports and ensure that all tasks are completed in compliance with company policies and regulations.
This position is located in Fort Chipewyan, AB.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable (AP) Full Cycle:
- Process and manage full AP cycle, including invoice processing, vendor payments, and resolving any discrepancies.
- Review and process employee expense reports and recurring charges.
- Prepare and distribute AP reports as required.
- Accounts Receivable (AR) and Invoicing:
- Generate and issue AR invoices.
- Monitor and reconcile customer accounts.
- Prepare and send customer statements.
- Sage 300 and Xyntax Experience:
- Utilize Sage 300 and Xyntax systems to upload ISC funding from Xyntax to Sage.
- Ensure accurate and timely entry of financial data into both systems.
- Bank Reconciliations:
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations, ensuring that all transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
- Work Order Entry & Job Costing:
- Enter work orders and monitor job costing to ensure that expenses are allocated correctly and accurately.
- Review and track work order progress and ensure proper cost allocation.
- Employee Timesheet Review:
- Review and verify employee timesheets to ensure accuracy before payroll processing.
- Ad Hoc Reporting:
- Provide ad hoc financial reports as required by management.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Customer Service:
- Act as a point of contact for internal and external customers regarding public works-related financial inquiries.
- Respond to inquiries and resolve any issues related to AP, AR, or work order processes.
- Payroll Coverage:
- Cross-training.
- All other duties as required.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a finance or accounting role, with a strong background in accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR).
- Experience using Sage 300 and Xyntax financial software is required.
- Strong understanding of job costing, work order entry, and financial reconciliation processes.
- Previous experience with bank reconciliations, employee expense reporting, and generating financial reports is an asset.
- Experience working with both internal teams and external customers, particularly in public works or similar sectors, is preferred.
