Position Overview

The YMCA Of Southwestern New Brunswick is a charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. The Glenn Carpenter Center, located on Foster Thurston, offers Member programs in an Outdoors setting unlike any other location in Saint John. It offers more than 250 acres of forest, its own private lake, trails, an archery field, a sports field, a beach and much more. This allowing children, Youth, Teens and adults to learn new skills and participate in some of their favourite activities Year round.

The Program Leads responsibilities include overseeing the coordination of creative and enthusiastic Member programs and scheduling. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills and problem solving capabilities and have experience in leading programming. The Program lead will work closely with the GCC Coordinator to make sure programming is done appropriately.

Authority: The incumbent will take all actions appropriate to fulfilling the described functions. Such actions will be consistent with the practices and policies of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick. Reports to the Development Supervisor.

Core Responsibilities

Assist in effectively planning, organizing and supervising daily member programming and activities.

Employ inclusive and adaptive programming principles to cater to all participating YMCA Members.

Assist in completing required administrative tasks related to the operation of the Glenn Carpenter Center

Maintain a professional work environment, adhering to all policies and processes.

To assist in all other operations as requested by the Manager of The Glenn Carpenter Center.

Responsible for the care, safety, storage and inventory of all equipment and supplies.

As a member of the GCC staff team, the Program Lead will provide a positive role model for fellow staff and members in every aspect of life, being conscious of health, dress, speech, etiquette and relations with others.

Model appropriate behaviours to staff in line with the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick mission, vision and values; establishes rapport and maintains effective relationship building behaviour with staff, volunteers and members.

Self manages personal professional development and work that needs to be completed.

Skills and Qualifications

Minimum 1 year experience working with children; in Childcare, Afterschool and Youth Programs an asset.

Possess a strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills

Strong outdoor background and experience with a variety of recreation activities.

An excellent team player able to share cooperative leadership with other staff.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

First Aid and CPR Certification is preferred.

Employment is contingent on having a clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.

Working Conditions

As a YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick staff person, you are responsible for your own travel to and from work.

The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick has a Joint Health and Safety Committee which meets on a monthly basis to discuss health and safety within the workplace. Questions or concerns about your workplace must be brought forward to committee members.

As Coordinator you will be required to work in an environment which is often busy and at times fast-paced.

You will be required to manage multiple activities on a regular basis.

This position will require the staff person to sit for long periods of time.

You will be responsible to follow and abide by YMCA Canada National Experience.
