Senior Accountant – Victoria, BC

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their Victoria-based head office. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the day-to-day accounting operations, including managing accounts payable and maintaining the general ledger.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.

  • Prepare account reconciliations, cash flow forecasts, and supporting documentation.

  • Manage preparation of common area maintenance (CAM) reconciliations and tenant recovery statements.

  • Accurately process all tenant-related financial transactions.

  • Identify and recommend process improvements and support ongoing system enhancements.

  • Provide ad hoc reporting, analysis, and project support to the Controller and Finance Director.

  • Ensure timely submission of statutory filings such as GST returns, property tax reports, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Support audit and tax preparation processes, including coordination with external auditors.

  • Maintain and monitor internal controls to protect company assets and ensure compliance.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

  • CPA designation (completed or actively pursuing).

Experience:

  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Prior exposure to real estate accounting (property management or real estate development strongly preferred).

  • Solid grasp of full-cycle accounting principles and financial reporting practices.

Technical Skills:

  • Understanding of industry-specific accounting treatments, including revenue recognition, cost capitalization, tenant recoveries, and CAM reconciliations.

  • Familiarity with tax implications relevant to real estate entities (preferred).

  • Strong proficiency with accounting systems; experience with SAP Business One is an asset.

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis functions).
