MAINTENANCE HELPER JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose/ Summary
The Maintenance Helper will learn general maintenance for buildings, grounds, equipment furnishings. Perform custodial duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under direct supervision:
- Assists with repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting and in accordance to accepted codes
- Assists in the inspection of the physical plant, furnishings and equipment on a regular basis identifying needed repairs or improvements
- Performs shop floor care on an ongoing basis, including offices and lavatories
- Removes trash and metal chips to proper areas for disposition
- Ensures that outdoor walking areas and parking lot are clean, in good repair and free of debris and snow and ice.
- Assists in lifting and transporting heavy objects
- Maintains grounds in a professional, well groomed manner
- Coordinates maintenance services with other departments
- Follow all applicable safety rules and precautions
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area.

Working Conditions
- May regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
- Ascends ladders and works at elevations
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment, acetone, alcohol, argon, braze alloys, nitrogen, hydrogen, oil based lubricants and cleaning solutions
- The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat
- Night and/or weekend hours may be required
Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Able to read, write, and speak in standard English
- Legally authorized to work in applicable country
Preferred qualifications
- 1 year relevant experience
- Industrial Mechanical experience
