To get a better understanding of Mitacs and read more about our values please visit ourwebsite Vice President, External Relations and International Affairs Position Overview Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer and in direct collaboration with the Chief Research Officer, the Vice President, External Relations and International Affairs (VP) will provide strategic leadership to Mitacss international relations, academic and ecosystem partnerships, and external stakeholder engagement. This role will be instrumental in advancing Mitacss international and national strategic objectives by overseeing high-level relationships with key stakeholders, and academic institutions globally and within Canada, including the Mitacs Full Partner Advisory Committee (FPAC) and key granting councils. The VP will be responsible for leading and integrating Mitacss international strategy with its broader external relations mandate, ensuring alignment with the organizations priorities and long-term vision. This includes overseeing the execution and operationalization of international agreements, driving engagement with post-secondary institutions both in Canada and internationally, and ensuring Mitacs continues to lead in advancing global research and innovation collaborations. This role requires regular travel within Canada and internationally to attend strategic meetings, events, and delegations. Due to the global nature of Mitacss partnerships, flexibility in working hours is essential, including occasional early morning, evening, or weekend availability to support international engagements across time zones. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & External Relations Champion the One Mitacs approach by fostering cross-functional alignment across departments to advance unified strategic outcomes.Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and senior leadership on international and external affairs, contributing to long-term organizational positioning.Oversee the International Relations and the Academic and Ecosystem Partnerships teams, ensuring strong engagement with universities, colleges, and federal research funding agencies.Identify emerging opportunities and challenges in Canadas international science diplomacy landscape, aligning Mitacss strategy with evolving geopolitical contexts.Represent Mitacs in high-level discussions with government officials, academic leaders, and industry representatives to advance research and innovation collaborations. This includes the Interdepartmental Network on International Science and Technology (INIST), the Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committees (JSTCC) with other countries, joining Team Canada events/delegations, and other important platforms, as well as the Mitacs Full Partner Advisory Committee (FPAC) and key granting councils.Serve as the primary organizational representative at senior-level foreign delegation meetings to enhance Mitacss global footprint.Lead engagement efforts with postsecondary institutions, ensuring Mitacss value proposition is effectively communicated to university and college partners. International Partnerships & Academic Engagement Oversee Mitacss international partnerships strategy, ensuring strategic alignment with Canadian government priorities, industry, academia and emerging talent mobility needs.Review and streamline international agreements to enhance impact, while optimizing the delivery of Globalink Programs to meet Mitacs obligations under the Strategic Science Fund and Quantum agreements with ISED.Lead Mitacs' global expansion efforts, identifying new partnership opportunities and strengthening existing international collaborations.Oversee the development and implementation of a multi-year engagement strategy for Mitacss university members (Full, Associate and Honorary), as well as eligible college and CEGEP partnersOversee key initiatives such as the Mitacs Full Partner Advisory Committee (FPAC) bi-annual meetings and related stakeholder engagement activities.Ensure Mitacss academic and ecosystem engagement aligns with broader international and external relations objectives.Guide the development of strategic engagement frameworks to drive awareness of Mitacs programming and activity for postsecondary institutions and ecosystem partners.
