We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated 310T Mechanic Shop Lead Hand to oversee daily operations within our heavy truck and trailer maintenance facility. The successful candidate will serve as a working leadproviding hands-on mechanical expertise while supervising and supporting a team of mechanics and apprentices. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical ability, leadership experience, and a focus on safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy trucks, trailers, and related equipment in accordance with 310T standards
- Lead and coordinate shop workflow to ensure timely and efficient service delivery
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and support to mechanics and apprentices
- Conduct inspections and quality control checks to ensure work meets safety and regulatory standards
- Prioritize and assign tasks based on technician skills and job urgency
- Assist with troubleshooting complex mechanical issues
- Participate in hands-on repairs during peak periods or coverage needs
- Ensure accurate documentation of all repairs and services
- Oversee scheduling, work order management (via Fleetio), and inventory control
- Coordinate parts ordering to reduce downtime
- Promote and enforce safety procedures, holding regular safety meetings and tailgate talks
- Identify and report safety issues or incidents; implement corrective actions as necessary
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal vehicle maintenance regulations
- Act as the point of contact for escalated technical or operational concerns
- Ensure tools and equipment are maintained and stored safely
- Conduct performance reviews and provide development support for team members
- Valid Ontario 310T Truck and Coach Technician License
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in heavy truck and trailer repair
- At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a heavy truck shop
- Strong mechanical skills across engine, electrical, hydraulic, and air brake systems
- Knowledge of shop safety standards and regulatory requirements
- Proficient with technical manuals, schematics, diagnostic tools, and shop software
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Valid AZ or DZ license preferred; G license may be considered for the right candidate
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in a physically demanding environment
- Full-time, Monday to Friday (with overtime and some weekends as needed)
- Fast-paced shop environment handling a wide range of trucks, trailers, and waste collection vehicles
- PPE provided; strict adherence to safety protocols
