Job Description

Internal Job Title: Type Press Operator
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time (12 hour shifts)
Job Location: Ottawa, ON
Work Model: On-site

Position Summary

As a Type Press Operator in our Plant Operations group, you will be responsible for setting up and operating high speed printing & numbering press machinery to produce high-quality secure documents (e.g. currency, passports, identity products, etc.). This role requires attention to detail, technical expertise, and a commitment to following health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

Setup and Preparation:

  • Set up and adjust fountains, rollers, paper guides, and feed controls.
  • Positions and installs cylinder packing, dies, printing plates and numbering heads in press, according to specifications, using hand tools.
  • Reads work orders and job specifications to set up all elements of the project, including ink and substrate and numbering heads.
  • Ability to review, understand and execute project-based instructions and standard operating procedures.

Operation and Monitoring:

  • Monitors feeding and printing operations to maintain consistency, alignment, registration, ink density and integrity of numbering sequence for project.

Quality Control:

  • Maintains quality results by adhering to reference standards and standard operating procedures.

Record Keeping:

  • Records and maintains production log-sheets.

Safety Procedures:

  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following organization Health and Safety standards and legal regulations.
Qualifications

Education and Aptitudes

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and additional relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical work
  • Basic numeracy skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, put numbers in sequence)
  • Basic computer literacy

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience operating a multi-unit printing press.
  • Experience in impact numbering and/or letterpress equipment is an asset
  • Experience with an in-line camera inspection system is an asset.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Language: Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time; ability to lift up to 45 lbs
  • Work Hours: Ability to work 12-hour shifts; ability to work all shifts (front-end/back-end, days/nights); ability to work a reasonable amount of overtime
  • Security Clearance: Ability to attain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Secret (Level II) personal security clearance
