Full job description
As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, and under the direction of the Fleet Manager you will be required to carry out inspections, diagnoses, repairs and service of mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and components of heavy equipment and components of light and commercial transport trucks as needed or directed.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will perform some or all of these duties as trained and directed:
- Completion of fleet vehicle service and repair and ensuring readiness for shop departure. (housekeeping, cleanliness)
- Attention to overall housekeeping and cleanliness of the mechanic shop including but not limited to; lose tools, hoses, general pick-up, assorting or compiling of shop material.
- Service on tires, tubes and wheels on specialized and heavy-duty automotive equipment, utilizing hydraulic jacks and lifts and tire equipment.
- Replenishment of inventories and consumables as needed and required.
- Inspect equipment for proper fluid levels, adds fluids as necessary and replaces filters
- Lubricate auxiliary attachments, suspensions, moving parts, and wearing surfaces on equipment
- Remove and replace sealed beam lighting units, light bulbs, light bars and fuses
- Repair or replace worn parts, such as brake drums and shoes, sometimes requiring major mechanical work. Identify and report to Service Manager any major problems requiring mechanical attention
- Advise Service Manager on work performed, general vehicle condition and future repair requirements.
- Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on all vehicles.
- Maintain records and reports of all maintenance performed
- Observe all common safety practices.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
- Abide by all company policies and safety regulations.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of secondary school is required.
- Completion of Heavy-Duty Mechanic Apprenticeship, possessing an Alberta accepted Trade Ticket, Interprovincial Red Seal License
- A valid driver's license appropriate to the class of company vehicle being driven is required as well as any other requirements by law.
- Forklift certificate is mandatory to operate any motorized material handling equipment.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certifications are required.
- Eligibility for bonding.
