We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Trust Accounting Clerk to join our finance team at client's legal firm. In this critical role, you will be responsible for managing client trust accounts in strict compliance with legal and ethical standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting or bookkeeping, with specific experience in trust accounting within a law firm environment. About the Role
Process a high volume of trust cheques and deposits with accuracy and efficiency
Manage and maintain investment accounts across all major financial institutions
Handle real estate closings and related payouts in compliance with trust accounting standards
Prepare and post wire transfers, EFT payments, and fund transfers
Perform monthly reconciliations of trust bank accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance
Track and report quarterly TAF (Trust Administration Fee) remittances
Maintain accurate and well-organized records, both in electronic and paper formats
Ensure adherence to firm policies and internal control procedures at all times
Support the accounting team with special projects and departmental initiatives as required
Assist with additional accounting tasks and responsibilities as needed
- Post-secondary education in accounting or equivalent work experience with basic accounting procedures;
- 1+ years of accounting experience in a law firm or professional services firm;
- Understanding trust accounting processes, provincial law society rules and ensuring compliance;
- Experience using PC Law & Soluno an asset;
- Proficiency with Excel and Word;
- Strong technical aptitude;
- Detail oriented, methodical, well organized, with quick and efficient data entry skills;
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives under minimal supervision;
- Desire to learn, initiate changes and to assume additional responsibilities as time progresses; and
- Excellent communication (written & verbal) and interpersonal skills.
