Salary: $23.00/Hour

JOB SUMMARY:

Sagamok Anishnawbek is seeking a dedicated and passionate Childrens Wellness Worker to join our Community Wellness Department.

This individual will be responsible for supporting the wellness of children aged 612 through evidence-based prevention programs, recreation, and cultural activities. The ideal candidate is community-oriented, adaptable, and committed to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of children and their families.

POSITION DUTIES:

Plan, coordinate, and facilitate evidence-based wellness programs, workshops, and recreational activities for children.

Provide secondary prevention support for at-risk children and families through individual or group sessions.

Incorporate Anishnawbe traditional knowledge and cultural practices into programming.

Collaborate with community partners and referring agencies to identify and support children and families in need.

Maintain accurate client records and contribute to program evaluation and improvement.

Prepare activity budgets and assist in drafting program funding proposals.

Participate in emergency response planning, after-hours support, and community wellness initiatives.

Supervise volunteers or student placements as required.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Must hold or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.

Must possess a valid drivers license and reliable vehicle.

Must provide a current Criminal Record Check prior to employment.

Will be required to sign and adhere to confidentiality agreements and privacy training.

Must be committed to ongoing professional development and uphold the Seven Grandfather Teachings

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

University degree in human services preferred; minimum college diploma in human services required.

Minimum two (2) years direct experience working with children, families, and groups.

Completion of a research or evaluation course is an asset.

Membership or willingness to register with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

Skills & Competencies:

Knowledge of Anishnawbek history, values, and teachings.

Experience in planning and facilitating wellness, recreation, and cultural programs.

Strong communication, facilitation, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet-based tools.

Life Skills Coaching certification- would be considered an asset.

Ability to understand or speak Ojibway would be considered an asset.

Knowledge of traditional wellness and healing practices would be considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

Evening and weekend work is required to meet the availability of children.

Some programming may occur in client homes and community spaces.

Travel during winter and inclement weather conditions is required.

The position may involve exposure to stressful situations and high emotional demands.
