Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) II to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated, detail-oriented individual with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills. The CDA II will assist the dentists in all aspects of patient care, with a specific focus on accurate and thorough paper chart documentation.
Responsibilities:
Chairside Assisting:
Prepare treatment rooms for dental procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments and materials are readily available.
Assist the dentist during various procedures, including but not limited to fillings, extractions, root canals, and crown preparations.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
Pass instruments and materials to the dentist efficiently and accurately.
Operate and maintain dental equipment.
Take and process dental radiographs (if certified and as per provincial regulations).
Take impressions for study models and other dental appliances.
Provide patients with pre- and post-operative instructions.
Charting and Documentation:
Accurately and thoroughly document all treatment procedures, patient interactions, and observations in paper patient charts.
Record treatment plans, progress notes, and any changes to patient conditions.
Ensure all entries are legible, accurate, and comply with dental record-keeping standards.
Initial and date all chart entries.
Patient Care and Communication:
Greet patients warmly and ensure they are comfortable in the dental chair.
Communicate effectively with patients, addressing their concerns and answering questions.
Provide oral hygiene instructions and educate patients on proper dental care.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Sterilization and Infection Control:
Sterilize and disinfect dental instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
Maintain a sterile environment in the treatment rooms.
Adhere to all infection control policies and procedures.
Other Duties:
Manage inventory of dental supplies and equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the dentist or office manager.
Qualifications:
Successful completion of a certified dental assisting program.
Current and valid CDA II certification as required by provincial regulations.
Valid CPR certification.
