Position Summary:
We are currently recruiting for a full-time Building Operator to join our client's operations team in Fort McMurray. The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient maintenance and upkeep of a large retail property, ensuring that building systems run smoothly and tenants receive timely, top-tier support. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager and plays a hands-on role in maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day maintenance and operations of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, lighting, electrical, elevators, and fire safety equipment
- Conduct preventative maintenance and minor repairs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life
- Perform property inspections to identify issues, hazards, or areas needing attention
- Act as the main contact for tenant service requests, delivering responsive, solution-focused support
- Work with vendors and contractors for repairs, quotes, and ongoing maintenance work
- Contribute to seasonal tasks such as snow removal and general outdoor upkeep
- Maintain records, complete checklists, and assist in implementing safety policies
- Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation to support emergency maintenance needs
- Solid technical understanding of building systems (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.)
- Knowledge of health and safety protocols and regulatory compliance standards
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when working with tenants and vendors
- Comfortable working independently and responding quickly to maintenance concerns
- Proficient with standard computer applications (email, MS Office, work order systems)
- Valid Alberta Driver's License and reliable access to a vehicle
- Familiarity with property management software (Yardi, MRI Angus, Site Docs)
- Experience with building automation systems such as BMS, DDC, or Metasys
