Senior Architectural Designer
KPA, the architectural firm within the KGC Team, is looking for a creative, motivated, and experienced individual to join our team as a Senior Architectural Designer based at our head office in Abbotsford. The successful candidate should have a strong visual communication skillset as well as an ability to develop, understand and interpret conceptual building design parameters. The candidate will promote KGC/KPA design excellence, possess technical skills to support project work through effective communication skills to coordinate a multi-disciplinary project team during the conceptual and design development stages of projects. They will serve as the primary contact for clients, communicating progress and status throughout these phases of the project. They will also collaborate closely with head office staff in Abbotsford.
Responsibilities:
Services architectural projects under the direct supervision of the project architect from pre-design services, design development, construction and managing the permit process
Create and execute project work plans or project execution plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements
Proactively coordinate with the extended architectural team to ensure standards and performance are met to support project quality and execution
Deliver day-to-day project tracking and communication with the client and project team
Interpret, review & contribute to the production and coordination of design drawings
Conduct and report on field reviews
Manage aspects of client relationships and project service delivery
Direct and coordinate the project engineering teams for the execution of the design of projects in the DD phases
Set-up budget and schedule management for the design team as required
Develop, track, update, forecast and modify the project schedule and budget throughout all phases of the project
Maintain and perform project document control and procedures and ensure permit applications to AHJs are complete and monitor all related requirements of resubmissions
Consult with designers/engineers when reviewing drawings and suggests value added or alternative construction methods or materials
Coordinate with the project team to develop and manage the project plan, objectives, schedules, budgets, constraints, and deliverables
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or equivalent construction/design industry experience
5-10 years experience and/or demonstrated project/design management experience in commercial and residential sectors (preference for residential)
Knowledge of local building codes, bylaws, and standards
Facility in Revit 3D design software and rendering add-ons
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook)- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preference given to registered architects or persons with architectural education
Knowledge and experience in planning and design issues to be addressed in Development Permit processes
Experience planning and monitoring budgets- Experience coaching and mentoring junior staff
Skills in architectural design, permits and construction document production
Ability to interpret and manage time procurement of inter-disciplinary design documents
