As a Specialist - Corporate Safety, you'll play a crucial role in promoting public and employee health and safety while mitigating corporate risks associated with our operational and capital programs. Our diverse Utility Distribution Systems (UDS) department spans complex industrial environments in electricity and natural gas distribution, offering unique opportunities to support high-impact safety initiatives. Collaborating closely with departments, you'll develop, implement, and evaluate safety management systems, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards. The Specialist - Corporate Safety is an on-site position located in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Relocation Assistance is available for the successful candidate. Your key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to support safety and community objectives.
  • Lead investigations, audits, and inspections, promoting a culture of safety and improvement.
  • Support emergency management efforts, including roles within the Incident Command System.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and business continuity strategies.
  • Provide expert guidance on Corporate Safety and operational risk management.
  • Design and manage safety training and competency programs.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety documentation.
  • Oversee health and safety programs, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Report on safety performance and incident outcomes.

What you bring

  • Practical expertise in Health, Safety, and Emergency Management systems.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.
  • Adaptability and initiative to solve safety challenges and drive improvements.
  • Experience delivering safety training and competency programs.
  • Proficiency in managing safety documentation.
  • Ability to lead audits, inspections, and investigations.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or related field.
  • 5+ years' experience with Health & Safety and Emergency Management systems.
  • Knowledge of Alberta OHS legislation.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License with a clean record.
  • Auditor certification and experience in the electrical/gas industry are assets.
