SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reports to Supervisor, Aquatic Programming, provides aquatic instruction in a positive learning experience to customers in an environment that is safe and enjoyable.
GENERAL DUTIES
Teach Aquatic Leadership and/or First Aid programs.
Prepare long term and short term lesson plans, complete test sheets, record cards and certificates.
Follow the standards set down by the City of Hamilton, Red Cross Society, Lifesaving Society, Canadian Amateur Diving Association and other governing aquatic agencies.
Perform the surveillance necessary to prevent accidents by administering policies, procedures, rules and regulations governing the conduct of participants in instructional setting.
Perform rescues and first aid within accordance of certification standards from the Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, Ontario Heart and Stroke, City of Hamilton, and other governing agencies related to require certifications within the position.
Enforce all pool rules and regulations.
Report known or potential hazards, maintenance concerns, and unsafe conditions immediately to the staff person in charge of facility.
Ensure that the lifesaving equipment is maintained, and available in proper order to implement trained rescue procedures.
Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
Perform other duties as assigned, which are directly related to major responsibilities of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current/Certified Advanced Instructor/Examiner Status specific to course being taught such as. Lifesaving Society, Red Cross, Canadian Amature Diving Association, Synchro Ontario, Water Art/CALA.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred National Lifeguard Certification
HOURS: 0 - 24 per week - Varied
NOTE 1: As a condition of employment, the successful applicant(s) will be required to obtain a Criminal Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening), at their own expense, prior to beginning work in this position.
NOTE 2: Successful candidates will be required to enter into an employment agreement.
