MDM Inventory Specialist

Reporting to the Master Data Control Manager, the MDM Inventory Specialist is responsible for maintaining West Fraser's item master(s), establishing new item number setups and ensuring data integrity within our operating systems. As an Inventory Specialist, you will also assist our operations across North America in managing their inventory and promoting best inventory use and storage practices.
You'll Do:
- Review requests for new item number set ups and changes to existing item number data attributes to ensure there are no duplicates, all data attributes are correct, and nomenclature is accurate.
- Approve and create new items and related master data for storeroom spare parts, equipment, consumables, and production related materials for all facilities across North America.
- Systematic review and analysis of master data to provide suggestions on data improvements based on trends, ensure system accuracy, and cleanse the system of old, unused or duplicate.
- Reviews the item master creation process to identify opportunities for improvements in terms of quality, delivery and total cost.
- Support the Master Data Manager in the creation and maintenance of the Master Data Policy and SOPs.
- Develops into a “Super-User” for item master related functions and facilitates the development of members in learning and utilization of the ERP and Maintenance systems
- Creates and maintains metrics and reports as required
- Supports Master Data, Supply Chain, ERP and Maintenance system project teams as necessary
- Performs other duties as assigned.
You'll Have:
- 2+ years of experience in an operations role, ideally within a heavy manufacturing industry
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multitask and prioritize workload
- Technically proficient with all MS Office tools, especially Excel, Outlook and Teams.
- Must have a general knowledge of mechanical parts and equipment, with a preference to experience in the wood products/lumber industry
- Oracle and / or Maximo experience preferred
- Post secondary education or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor degree preferred.
- Ability to be proactive with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment that is continually changing
- Excellent communication, organization, planning, project coordination, time management, analytical, problem solving and follow-up skills
- Ability to work effectively as a team player in a diverse work group.
