The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits.
Who You Are
Mikisew KKECH is seeking a dedicated and reliable Maintenance/Security Worker to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and safety of our facility, while also ensuring the security of the premises. You will help create a safe and welcoming environment for employees, visitors, and contractors, while performing routine maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the building.
This position is located in Fort Chipewyan, AB
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of building systems.
- Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and functionality of common areas.
- Respond to maintenance requests promptly and efficiently, ensuring that repairs are completed in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized maintenance or repair work as needed.
- Ensure all maintenance tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
- Conduct regular inspections of the building and grounds to identify and address any potential issues.
- Monitor security systems (e.g., cameras, alarms) to detect and respond to potential security risks or emergencies.
- Perform regular patrols of the premises, including both indoor and outdoor areas, to ensure safety and prevent unauthorized access.
- Enforce building security protocols, including checking ID badges, maintaining visitor logs, and ensuring all security doors are properly secured.
- Respond to emergency situations, such as fire alarms, break-ins, or medical incidents, and notify the appropriate authorities.
- Provide assistance to employees, contractors, and visitors as needed, ensuring they feel safe and supported.
- Report any suspicious activity or breaches of security to the appropriate authorities or management.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (or equivalent work experience).
Previous experience in maintenance, custodial work, or security preferred.
Strong knowledge of basic building maintenance tasks (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
Familiarity with security protocols and systems is a plus.
Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations
Other Requirements
- Possess a valid Class 5 AB drivers license and own or access to a vehicle.
- First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends and be on-call when required.
- Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
- Successful Completion of Criminal Record Check.
- Must be fluent in English and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language (or another applicable First Nation language) would be beneficial.
- Must sign Oath of Confidentiality form.
