The Role
Reporting to the Production Planning Manager, the Shipping/Receiving Warehouse Supervisor is accountable for the safety, quality, and productivity of the receiving, shipping, warehouse and THT packaging departments. This role also involves providing hands-on support to the teams when necessary.
What You Will Do
Safety:
- Ensure all employees wear the required PPE to safely complete job tasks.
- Maintain and ensure safe operating conditions for all material handling equipment and tools.
- Coordinate activities with the Maintenance department.
- Promote safe material handling techniques and ensure daily inspections of equipment.
- Ensure proper storage of materials on racking and in designated storage locations.
Team Leadership and Employee Management:
- Supervise the performance of employees in the warehouse, shipping and receiving departments.
- Conduct annual performance evaluations and prepare training plans for supervised personnel.
- Conduct department tailgate meetings.
- Monitor and approve employee time-off requests via the Workday platform.
- Communicate job expectations and coach employees.
- Interview, select, train and develop staff.
Continuous Improvement:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of warehouse, receiving and shipping functions and processes.
- Identify and implement improvements to enhance efficiency in these areas.
Receiving:
- Ensure incoming products are received accurately and promptly.
- Organize the Returned Material area and ensure products are returned to stock locations or departments promptly.
- Maintain organization and housekeeping in the receiving area and outdoor lot.
- Inspect and document any damaged products.
- Move materials from the receiving area to the warehouse or stocking area after QC inspection.
Warehouse:
- Ensure efficient and safe movement of stock into and out of the warehouse.
- Implement and maintain efficient material storage methodologies to improve picking efficiency, material locating, and storage space utilization.
- Oversee security of stock and warehouse.
Shipping:
- Ensure drivers depart with appropriate shipping paperwork.
- Prepare accurate Bills of Lading for outbound freight using a warehouse management system.
- Schedule or monitor air or surface pickup, delivery, or distribution of products.
- Supervise workers engaged in receiving, storing, testing, and shipping products or materials.
- Coordinate with carriers and freight forwarders to schedule pick-up of goods.
- Process necessary invoices for payment.
- Identify and correct errors on packing lists and invoices.
- Monitor shipping orders and ensure shipping quantities match picking documents.
- Issue shipping instructions and provide routing information to ensure coordinated delivery times and locations.
- Update the system with freight movement information and assist in resolving discrepancies.
Knowledge & Qualifications:
- Minimum five years' supervisory experience in a warehousing environment.
- Minimum two years' experience managing schedules, workflow, safety, personnel, and equipment.
- Diploma in Material Management, Transportation, or Logistics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five years' experience driving counterbalanced forklifts in indoor and outdoor environments.
- Knowledge and experience in custom-related processes is an advantage.
