The Tlaamin Nation is a modern, forward-thinking, self-governing nation located on the beautiful upper Sunshine Coast (qathet Region).

Position Summary

Job Type: Full-time, permanent

Hours of Work: 8 hours per day, with a blend of morning & evening shifts (7:00am-12:00pm, 3:00pm-6:00pm), dependent on events and building use schedule.

Reports to: Building Maintenance Coordinator

Department: Public Works & Capital Infrastructure

Tlaa'min Nation is seeking a full-time Custodian who will primarily take care of our new ms ay & tan mot ay (Cultural Center & Traditional Foods Processing Facility). We are seeking a dependable & proactive person to support the upkeep of these buildings. This role is a blend of cleaning, light maintenance, and equipment care, to ensure both buildings remain clean, safe, and welcoming for community use.

Key Responsibilities

Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tlaamin policies, standards, practices, and procedures as directed by the Building Maintenance Coordinator. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to members, clients, employees, and general matters of the Nation.

This role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Provides daily cleaning & disinfecting of washrooms, kitchens, floors, and other common areas within the buildings.
  • Cleans and maintains specialized food processing equipment, following sanitation protocols.
  • Cleans and maintains delicate cultural items in the museum space.
  • Empty waste bins and restock supplies as needed.
  • Cleans personal office spaces by request.
    Cleaning of windows, interior glazed areas, and office fixtures as needed.
    Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs (e.g. replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, tightening fixtures).
  • Monitors and reports larger maintenance and repair needs to Building Maintenance Coordinator (e.g. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structure issues).
    Assist with event setup and teardown (e.g. moving chairs, tables, equipment).
    Maintain outdoor walkways and entry areas as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety standards.
  • Support cleanliness and maintenance of additional Tlaamin Nation buildings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Training, Education, Experience

  • Grade 12 education or GED equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience working in cleaning, custodial and/or maintenance roles.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Building Services Worker Certificate.
  • WHMIS Certificate is an asset.
  • First Aid Training is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of building systems and hand tools.
  • Reliable attendance and self-motivated.
  • Safety-minded.
  • Must be willing to work morning or evening shifts to accommodate community program needs.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs. comfortably.
  • Willingness to obtain training on building specific equipment care.
  • Acceptable Police Information Check prior to employment.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License and acceptable Drivers Abstract.

Working Conditions

This is a physical, laborious position. Employees will be moving, bending, lifting, and standing majority of the workday. Work hours will be flexible depending on the frequency of use of the buildings.
