The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, ensuring that the food is of high quality, and following proper food-handling practices while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.
Objective:
Ensure the provision of high-quality standards as they relate to food service at The Berkeley.
Operational Excellence:
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, including appetizers, entrees, and desserts.
- Ensure that all food is of high quality and meets our standards.
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Follow recipes and cooking techniques to ensure consistency.
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen.
- Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and report any issues to management.
- Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies.
- Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure all orders are prepared and served in a timely manner.
Minimum Requirements:
- Previous education and/ or cooking experience.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 50lbs.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage when times are slow.
- Empathy for, and an understanding of older adults, aging in place and cognitive impairment.
- Positive attitude and the ability to build relationships.
- Patient and friendly with demonstrated experience in problem solving.
- Red Seal, considered an asset.
