The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes, ensuring that the food is of high quality, and following proper food-handling practices while maintaining a clean and organized kitchen.

Objective:
Ensure the provision of high-quality standards as they relate to food service at The Berkeley.

Operational Excellence:

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes, including appetizers, entrees, and desserts.
  • Ensure that all food is of high quality and meets our standards.
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Follow recipes and cooking techniques to ensure consistency.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen.
  • Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and report any issues to management.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies.
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure all orders are prepared and served in a timely manner.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous education and/ or cooking experience.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 50lbs.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage when times are slow.
  • Empathy for, and an understanding of older adults, aging in place and cognitive impairment.
  • Positive attitude and the ability to build relationships.
  • Patient and friendly with demonstrated experience in problem solving.
  • Red Seal, considered an asset.
