Job Title: Tunnel Surveyor (TBM & SEM) Location: Toronto
Employment Type: Full-Time
Pay: Day Shift - $37.30
Role Overview
The Tunnel Surveyor is responsible for conducting all surveying activities related to Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operations and the Sequential Excavation Method (SEM). This role ensures precise data collection, accurate excavation alignment, and compliance with project specifications. The position requires expertise in advanced surveying techniques and the ability to thrive in challenging underground environments.

Key Responsibilities
Surveying Operations:
  • Perform all surveying tasks related to TBM and SEM operations, including excavation, lining installation, and cavern support.
  • Measure and monitor excavation surfaces, lining thickness, and rock bolt layouts to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Conduct regular quality checks on survey data and ensure accuracy in all measurements.
Equipment Management:
  • Operate and maintain advanced survey equipment, including total stations, multi-stations, and laser scanners.
  • Ensure all equipment is calibrated, functional, and ready for use.
Data Reporting and Documentation:
  • Prepare detailed reports for each shift, including production data, as-built information, and anomalies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all survey activities and submit them for project documentation.
Collaboration and Coordination:
  • Work closely with tunneling teams to ensure proper alignment and sequencing of operations.
  • Assist other surveyors and team members when required to meet project deadlines.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Strictly adhere to all safety protocols and attend mandatory safety training sessions.
  • Ensure that all surveying tasks are carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards.

Qualifications and Requirements
Experience:
  • 5-10 years of experience in construction surveying, particularly in tunnel projects.
  • Prior experience with TBM and SEM operations is highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in using advanced survey equipment such as total stations, multi-stations, and laser scanners.
  • Strong understanding of SEM principles and their application in tunneling projects.
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with diverse teams.

Physical and Environmental Adaptability:
  • Ability to work effectively in underground environments with varying conditions.
  • Flexibility to adapt to day and night shifts and handle physical demands of the role.
