Role Overview
The TBM Shift Manager is responsible for supervising all Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operations during assigned shifts. This role involves managing teams, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards, and maintaining efficient operations to meet project objectives. The TBM Shift Manager serves as the central point of contact for on-shift TBM activities, providing leadership and technical expertise to ensure seamless progress.

Key Responsibilities
Shift Operations Management
- Oversee all TBM activities during the assigned shift, ensuring compliance with project schedules and specifications.
- Supervise excavation progress, manage equipment usage, and resolve any operational challenges that arise.
- Conduct pre-shift and post-shift briefings, clearly communicating goals and responsibilities to team members.
- Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and implement corrective actions to address risks.
- Ensure all TBM operations comply with local regulations and industry standards.
- Provide direction and mentorship to TBM operators, engineers, and support staff.
- Monitor team performance and provide feedback to improve productivity and efficiency.
- Act as the primary point of contact for resolving on-shift personnel or operational issues.
- Ensure the availability and proper allocation of resources, including Client, equipment, and consumables.
- Collaborate with logistics teams to manage the timely delivery of materials required for TBM operations.
- Monitor excavation parameters and ensure alignment with project specifications.
- Prepare and review shift reports, documenting progress, anomalies, and any corrective measures taken.
- Address non-conformance issues promptly and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
- Lead the team in responding to on-shift emergencies, ensuring that safety protocols are followed.
- Coordinate with project management and other stakeholders to resolve critical issues efficiently.
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience:
- Extensive experience in managing TBM operations, with a proven track record in tunneling projects.
- Strong understanding of TBM machinery, excavation techniques, and underground construction processes.
- Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting excavation data to optimize performance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage diverse teams in high-pressure environments.
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills to address operational challenges.
- Commitment to maintaining high safety standards and fostering a culture of safety.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant professional certifications are an advantage.
