The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. The lives of our members are linked to the land and to a close understanding of traditions, history and a natural way of life. Many of our members live in the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, and our traditional lands range over a large portion of Athabasca oil sands deposits. Who You Are
Mikisew is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Journeyman Electrician (Red Seal), you will play a key role in maintaining, installing, and repairing electrical systems across the community. Your expertise will help ensure the safety, functionality, and efficiency of electrical systems in residential, commercial, and public facilities. You will work alongside a team of skilled professionals who are dedicated to providing reliable and safe services to the community.
This position is based in Fort Chipewyan, AB
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment in residential, commercial, and public facilities.
- Diagnose electrical problems and troubleshoot faulty systems, recommending and implementing effective solutions.
- Collaborate with other team members, contractors, and project managers to plan and execute electrical projects.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing electrical concerns of community members and offering expert advice.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on each job.
- Perform routine inspections of electrical systems and equipment to ensure optimal functionality and identify any safety hazards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documents to determine electrical requirements and ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards.
- Stay current with industry developments, new electrical technologies, and code updates to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- All other duties as required.
Qualifications
Journeyman Electrician (Red Seal) certification is required.
A minimum of 2 years of experience working as an electrician, with experience in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems.
Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical systems and diagnosing faults.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Other Requirements
Possess a valid Class 5 AB drivers license and own or have access to a vehicle.
Willingness and ability to travel to Fort Chipewyan as required.
Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.
Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
Willing to work a flexible schedule.
Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language (or another applicable First Nation language) would be beneficial.
