Ambipars Industrial Services division operates a large fleet of modern Vacuum, Combo, Hydrovac, Water, Gravel & Winch Units across Alberta, British Columbia & Saskatchewan. Our services are utilized on many different projects ranging from Downhole Drilling, Pipeline HDD, Daylighting and Civil Construction Projects.

We are currently seeking anOperations Managerto support our Hydrovac teamat our head office in Nisku, AB. This is a full-time salaried position located on-site Monday to Friday (40 hours per week); you would be required to work overtime when/if necessary.)

Position Summary:

The Operations Manager (Hydrovac Team) will coordinate the daily dispatching of Hydrovac equipment and personnel, ensuring smooth operations, effective communication, and timely execution of services. This role will also have a strong focus on business development, helping to bring in new clients, expand the divisions client base, and ensure the continued growth and profitability of the Hydrovac services. The Operations Manager will be responsible for managing fleet utilization, equipment performance, operator development, and business expansion, while ensuring high standards of safety and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently dispatch Hydrovac equipment and operators to various job sites based on client requirements.
  • Coordinate with Field Superintendents to ensure timely movement of equipment and personnel.
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders regarding equipment and operator movements.
  • Manage Hydrovac operators, ensuring that appropriately skilled operators are dispatched to the right jobs.
  • Track equipment status and availability to ensure seamless operations and minimize downtime.
  • Handle day-to-day communication with operators to address issues and provide support.
  • Direct operators to relevant departments (Maintenance, HR, Safety) as necessary.
  • Monitor and coordinate maintenance and repairs for Hydrovac equipment.
  • Ensure service reports are completed and communicated to the Operations and Maintenance teams.
  • Actively build and nurture relationships with clients, ensuring their needs are met promptly and efficiently.
  • Ensure effective communication with clients to address any changes in job requirements, including modifications in equipment, operators, or job schedules.
  • Work closely with the General Manager to approve new clients, develop proposals, and establish the Hydrovac division within the market.
  • Develop strategies to attract and onboard new clients to expand the divisions customer base.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the Hydrovac sector.
  • Bring new clients on board and help drive growth by building strong business relationships.
  • Communicate safety requirements to operators and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Pass on customer safety requirements to the HSE Manager and ensure all safety protocols are updated and followed.
  • Assist in the hiring of new Hydrovac operators, ensuring the right cultural and skillset fit for the team.
  • Provide support and guidance to operators, addressing any performance issues or disciplinary matters.
  • Recognize and reward operators for exceptional performance through praise, rewards, and recognition.
  • Ensure Hydrovac operators are trained to a senior level, providing training and support to new hires.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in managing Hydrovac operations or similar heavy equipment operations.
  • Experience in business development and bringing new clients into the company.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage operator and client needs effectively.
  • The ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies or breakdowns promptly.
  • Proficiency in using software tools like Axon, Outlook, GPS tracking, and maintenance tracking systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of Hydrovac equipment and operations, including water and vac services.
  • Ability to train and mentor operators to senior levels.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to develop and implement operational strategies for business growth.
  • Proven ability to successfully negotiate contracts and bids, manage client relationships, and contribute to the expansion of business divisions.
