Salary: $64,650 to $86,951 depending on education and experience

FIREFLY is a multi-service, non-profit organization located in Northwestern Ontario that has recently been designated a Children's Treatment Centre. In November 2022, FIREFLY achieved “Exemplary Standing” with Accreditation Canada. We are dedicated to supporting and strengthening the health and well-being of families, children, and youth through emotional, physical, developmental, and community services. Clients can access FIREFLY service in a variety of locations: centre based, in community (fly-in and drive-in communities), in schools, pre-school and child care settings. FIREFLY offices are located throughout Northwestern Ontario, providing a unique opportunity to build strong relationships with children and families, local colleagues and community partners. Purpose of Position:

FIREFLY requires a full time Counsellor for our Sioux Lookout, ON location.

This position will provide service in all FIREFLY locations, as required, through both in-person and virtual service delivery. Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Counsellor will be responsible for providing assessment, case planning, intervention, and program development services. You will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team who possesses excellent organizational, computer, written and oral communication skills. This position requires the ability to set priorities and to work co-operatively under pressure, while establishing strong partnerships with community stakeholder organizations.

You will be required to work from a “strengths-based, solution-focused” perspective to facilitate positive problem solving while accessing a client's and/or family's inherent strengths to address mental health challenges. Also required is the ability to develop, coordinate and implement intervention plans on a case-by-case basis. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in working systemically along with proven skills working collaboratively with service collaterals in a culturally sensitive manner. Some evening work and travel is required. FIREFLY will provide formal clinical counselling supervision to the successful candidate.

Key Job Functions:

  • Develop, coordinate and implement intervention plans on a case-by-case basis
  • Utilize assessment tools as required by the agency and Ministry standards
  • Document work with clients utilizing the agency recording package and maintain current client records
  • Attend relevant meetings with and/or on behalf of clients and the agency
  • Participate in on-going professional development and acquisition of new knowledge relevant to the field
  • Advise Clinical Manager of case situations that may have implications for the Agency

Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Masters and/or Graduate Degree in Human Services preferred
  • Undergraduate Degree in Human Services with related experience would be considered
  • Must be a member in good standing with a College recognized by the Psychotherapy Act, 2007.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, systems theory, family dynamics and the clinical assessment process
  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislation and regulations
  • Fluency in French would be an asset
  • Demonstrated competency of the culture(s) of clients being served is an asset
  • Must have a current and valid Driver's License
