Position Title: Quality Assurance Lead

Reporting to Skeena's Project and Engineering Director, and Technical Services Manager from time to time, the Quality Assurance Lead will establish the quality management program with responsibilities not limited to development and implementation of quality assurance procedures, performing quality tests and inspections, oversight on quality control testing, coordinating QA/QC activities and personnel and identifying and mitigating process issues/risks. This role will work collaboratively with the Engineering, Operations and Constructions teams.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Comply with the requirements of the health and safety guidelines, policies, and rules for the Eskay Creek site.
  • Promote a safety leadership culture by ensuring that safety practices are followed in accordance with Skeena's health and safety policies.
  • Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues, and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace.
  • Responsible for writing and developing appropriate industry standard Quality Assurance procedures and instructional references for QA staff.
  • Oversee a team of staff and/or contractors responsible for Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities at the Mine and the main point of contact QA.
  • Responsible for the development, training and mentoring of team members.
  • Identify test requirements from project specifications and design test plan that meets the design outcomes and requirements.
  • Complete understanding of the use of major civil and structural testing equipment, its routine maintenance, and regular quality analysis.
  • Create and manage program data and records in compliance with engineered drawings and principles and industry best practices.
  • Compile all testing data, chain of custody information and internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Ensure quality testing meets functional and design specifications and requirements.
  • Work with and communicate closely with project managers, construction managers, project and mine operations team members, contractors and other site personnel.

The Ideal Candidate:

Academic/Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in associate field.
  • Required Skills/Experience:
  • A Minimum of 7 years of directly related experience is required.
  • Mining/Industrial experience is essential.
  • Strong computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.), database tools and experience with writing SQL scripts is an asset.
  • Detail-oriented with thorough analytical and creative skills.
  • Strong organization skills, managing, tracking, and recording multiple tasks and a heavy workload.
  • Exhibits a high degree of responsibility and accountability.
  • Highly self-motivated and ability to work with minimal guidance (Must be self-directed).
  • Adaptable to change, ability to operate in less than perfect conditions and with less than perfect information at times.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment or individually.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance (Must be self-directed).
  • Must have past demonstrated experience in helping build a strong safety culture, as well as awareness of, and adherence to, all required health and safety best practices Must be able to work a rotational schedule in a remote mining camp.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Working Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving objects.
