Introduction & Key Role Objectives

WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK, with operations in Canada, the Middle East, Poland, the Philippines, and South Korea. We have specialized plants and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering and water treatment systems in various environments, including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface.

Yard operations are an essential part of our business and are pivotal in enabling WJ Canada's ability to execute projects on time and on budget. The principal function of this position is to act as the line supervisor for yard staff, coordinate daily yard activities, take pride in our equipment and staff, and provide support to project operations.

Reports to Logistics Manager

Key areas of responsibility

  • You will coach staff to achieve business objectives, monitor both quality and productivity of work to ensure that performance requirements and schedules are met.
  • You will ensure that these resources are prepared, tracked, utilized, and maintained safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Supervise yard staff including labourers, technicians, and mechanics to manage workloads and ensure the timely preparation and maintenance of dewatering and water treatment equipment and materials.
  • Supervise the procurement of materials and spare parts for RIE.
  • Oversee yard lease and sublease agreements, including, but not limited to, GOX.
  • Oversee yard operations including material restocking, equipment/asset maintenance and tracking (Company vehicles, drill rigs, pumps, tanks material handling equipment, etc.) and pre-site fabrication of dewatering and water treatment system components.
  • Oversee incoming and outgoing kit lists and ensuring appropriate substitutions, where necessary.
  • Maintain and report inventory of materials and supplies in the yard and lead standardization systems for materials and assemblies.
  • Conduct regular inspections of Company machinery and equipment and ensure the documentation and record keeping of equipment inspections.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Logistics Manager and Logistics Specialist regarding the delivery and forecasting of yard supplies and inventory for projects.
  • Assist in receiving and shipping of inbound and outbound deliveries of material, equipment, etc.
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance within the yard to meet the company and legislative standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Motivated, hardworking individual able to work in a fast-paced environment and problem solve to effectively manage the yard operations.
  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing, construction or warehousing.
  • 3 years of management experience in a warehouse, construction or similar environment.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer literate with experience working with inventory management software such as Yard Management System (YMS).
  • Hands on experience with a variety of plumbing, piping, and dewatering materials and hand and power tools.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills. The ability to effectively communicate sometimes complex concepts to yard team is an essential requirement.
  • Required training certificates: WHMIS, First-Aid and CPR, Skid steer and Forklift.

Working Conditions

The role is yard-based, but you will be expected to visit our head office and other sites as required.
