Our client, the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to creating a healthy, hunger-free community by providing healthy, nutritious food to those who need it most. They rely on the generosity of the community to support the work they do through the donation of food, funds, and time. These donations come from individuals, families, organizations and community groups as well as various fundraising/food-raising efforts.

The Central Okanagan Food Bank is looking for an enthusiastic West Kelowna Coordinator to join their dynamic team on a full-time basis. As the successful candidate you will report to the Director of Operations and work in collaboration with other members to ensure that clients' needs are met daily. Utilizing the help of other employees and volunteers, you will be responsible to organize and oversee the food distribution process at the West Kelowna location, including pickup, receipt, and storage of food. You will act as a community liaison, maintaining client confidentiality, disseminating information regarding other community resources, and providing a safe and pleasant atmosphere for all clients who come to the food bank. Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain adequate food resources to provide the best quality of food for all households in need within budget;
  • Manage all aspects of food inventory, procurement, controls, and distribution, in coordination with main warehouse and “procurement manager”;
  • Work with area retail partners to maintain and increase food pick-ups from stores using the food bank's van/truck;
  • Oversee daily distribution allotments to clients based on available inventory, anticipated client volume, understanding of client preferences and equity considerations;
  • Pickup, receive, and record food donations;
  • Utilize FIFO (first in, first out) inventory practices to ensure food quality and minimize waste;
  • Coordinate receipt and distribution of food, ensuring proper temperature control, sanitary conditions, and appropriate food handling is kept and maintained;
  • Implement and manage all food safety policies and procedures;
  • Ensure all inventory protocols are observed and captured (shipping receipts, inventory counts, data entry, etc.);
  • Order and receive food and validate invoices;
  • Complete quarterly inventory counts and create required reports;
  • Organize and oversee evening and weekend community events such as food drives;
  • Orient, train, motivate and supervise staff and volunteers;
  • Schedule volunteers to ensure consistent, adequate support for operations;
  • Maintain a clean, well-ordered facility and perform minor facility maintenance as required;
  • Ensure all equipment – van, refrigerator, freezers– and facility stay in good working order; scheduling maintenance/repairs as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • 5+ Years Supervisory and Operations experience preferred;
  • Strong communication and leadership skills – position requires ability to interact and communicate with staff, volunteers, and community (food bank clients and donors);
  • Training in de-escalation techniques desired (additional training will be provided);
  • Knowledge of food safety, storage practices, and inventory management required;
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record required;
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel and Word;
  • Strong organization and time management skills required;
  • Able to work as a collaborative team member in delivering excellent customer service;
  • Certified in food handling safety standards desired (will provide training if needed).
This position requires walking, standing, sitting and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs., and the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

This is a full-time, onsite opportunity. Salary will be aligned with experience level and is anticipated to start between $27 to $30 an hour. In addition to base salary, the COFB offers a comprehensive benefit plan and a vacation entitlement that allows for work/life integration.
