Number of Positions: 3 (three)
Hours: 40 hours per week; 7 days per week for various shifts; schedule provided by the department
Term of Employment: Up to 160 days per calendar year
Employee Group: CUPE
Rate of Pay: $22.47 per hour, plus $1.25 shift premium and overtime rates where applicable
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Reporting directly to the Operations Supervisor (Parks), the Parks Casual Labourer is part of the team dedicated to an excellent operational and customer service experience. The position will assist full-time staff with duties as assigned in the Parks Operations section. Candidates must be available to work seven days per week for Parks and have their own safety boots available.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist full time staff with daily maintenance tasks with; floral displays, grass cutting, sport fields, trails, washrooms, sanitation, splash pads, forestry and special events Maintenance tasks could also include: Weeding, watering, washing, cleaning, trimming, litter, garbage collection, and painting
  • Actively encourage and participate in a team environment
  • Assist with set up, servicing and take down of various community events
  • Report vandalism, maintenance and/or public concerns, mechanical difficulties, equipment/property damage
  • Clean ups of encampments
  • Complete daily logs and time sheets
  • Comply with all applicable regulations/requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS:
Essential (Minimum) Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Class G License with a clean driver's abstract
Asset (Preferred) Qualifications:
  • Ontario Class D License with a "Z" endorsement
  • A completion of courses in horticulture, turf, forestry, heavy equipment operation and/or arboriculture
  • Certification or training in first aid, elevated lifting devices, workplace and traffic safety (Book 7)
  • Chainsaw and brush chipper certifications
  • Must have good communication skills and a positive attitude and the ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Essential (Minimum) Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of experience performing work in parks, construction, landscaping, or farming environment
Asset (Preferred) Qualifications:
  • Relevant experience operating a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical labour including lifting, pulling, raking, and shoveling.
  • Interacting with the public for help and inquiries
