Nunee Health Board Society in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta is seeking an experienced Assistant Health Director, to join our leadership team. The ideal candidate should have senior management experience working in the First Nations health field as well as outstanding organization, communication and leadership skills. The successful candidate will report to the Health Director and will be responsible for the overall development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of all organizational and program activities as carried out by the Society. The Assistant Health Director is: ultimately responsible for all staff and program functions within the organization; manages and oversees the community health services function to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services.

  • Establish and maintain a sound system of internal accounting and administration controls for the overall operations of the organization
  • Oversee the daily financial operations pertaining to payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow, banking and capital asset reporting, preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Ensure timely submission and reporting to government agencies and regulatory agents like Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).
    • Develop and maintain an asset tracking system, as well as manage capital requests and budgeting forecasting.
    • Oversee the preparation of annual audits to ensure the organization meets the reporting and accountability monthly financial statements are complete, perform financial audits, and all annual returns.
    • Prepare and present an annual budget and administer funds accordingly, monitor fiscal expenditures and provide risk management analysis.
    • Meeting with managers regularly to develop and review monthly statements to ensure financial reporting is timely and relevant to their operation and/or funding agreement and management work plans.
    • Work closely with the Health Director to coordinate and prioritize planning and strategic financial issues.
    • Perform all accounting procedures with respect to the General Accepted Accounting Procedures.
    • Travel required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with senior management in a Health Organization or similar
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous Services Canada, Federal & Provincial Contribution Agreements.
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations and communities is strongly preferred.
  • Possess keen business acumen and analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Possess outstanding strategic long and short-term financial planning.
  • Ability to prepare and communicate complex financial information in an easily understood manner.
  • Must have strong knowledge and be proficient in Accounting software (Simply) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal and presentation) and organization skills (ability to prioritize tasks) and meet deadlines
  • Fluent in English, ability to speak Cree/Dene an asset

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Health, Human Services, Health Sciences, Social Services or any other relevant field combined with 3 – 5 years of directly related experience in program and community planning
  • 5 + years of experience working in a community health setting including development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of health services programs
  • Experience working with financial statements, human resource management, conflict intervention,
  • Experience working with Indigenous people, organizations, health professionals and communities is a asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
