Based in Calgary, the Survey Crew Chief (Technologist) will report to a Project Manager and will have a wide range of duties which ultimately focus on supporting construction and infrastructure development throughout Western Canada. You will be part of a team that is involved in pre-engineering surveys, construction surveys and monitoring, precision layout, and high-definition 3D laser scanning.
What You'll Do:
The Survey Crew Chief (Technologist) will be part of the Geomatics Alberta team. You will:
  • Assess field and documentary evidence to perform cadastral surveys including Surveyors Real Property Reports, Right of Way plans, Condominium Surveys, and Plans of Subdivision
  • Perform pre-engineering, topographic surveys while overseeing field activities
  • Oversee construction layout for residential and commercial developments, renewable energy, and transportation infrastructure projects
  • Perform deformation monitoring surveys for the detection of displacement related to site and/or linear project development
  • Collect field data using various survey instruments and GPS field equipment while overseeing QC of data collection, ensuring that field notes and daily downloads are complete
  • Collect terrestrial and mobile mapping data (or have the aptitude and willingness to learn this)
  • Undertake line locating of buried utilities within an Oil and Gas site or in a greenfield environment
  • On occasion, support our TULLOCH Engineering division by performing non-survey related construction management and both civil and structural engineering tasks under the direction of the project engineer

Who You Are:
  • You have at least 5 years practical experience working in a related role
  • You are willing to travel for site inspections and fieldwork
  • You are proficient in the operation of ATVs, UTVs, and snowmobiles
  • You make decisions and exercise independent judgment within defined parameters and in alignment with business objectives
  • You are not afraid to raise your hand when you need guidance
  • You are trusted and provided freedom to work independently but also contribute to overall team success

What You Should Bring:
The ideal candidate will at minimum have a college diploma in Geomatics, Engineering Technology, or a related program. Additionally, you should have:
  • Knowledge of Alberta survey evidence assessment, Act, Standards and Regulations as they relate to performing cadastral surveys
  • Unwavering commitment to health and safety in the workplace environment
  • High motivation with results-oriented focus
  • Superior organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid, full driver's licence
